I have been practicing yoga since childhood, first introduced to it by my mother and uncle. Over the years, I have been fortunate to interact with members of renowned monastic and spiritual orders which has deepened my learning and curiosity. Formally, I trained in the
Pātañjala Yoga Sūtra at the
MIT Institute of Vedic Sciences, Pune, India, and later continued as a self-taught student of classical yogic texts and their commentaries.
During my time at previous college, I served as Secretary of Yoga (Yoga Āsanas) and studied (and practiced) under Rakesh Kumar Malik Guruji. I also earned my certification as a yoga teacher, licensed by the
Indian Yoga Association. Yet, I hold a strong critique and despise the modern reduction of yoga, its confinement to mere poses, its commercialization, the degradation of its spiritual core, the indiscriminate dissemination of sacred practices, and the neglect of the ethical and philosophical dimensions that are integral to yoga’s true essence. Considering all this, I wish to keep myself dissociated from institutions, so-called teachers, and pop-yoga circles in the name of what they call yoga.
In this blog space, I will contribute to Yoga Studies and will keep updating the articles here.
